"Vibin' Around Town" by Deja Vibes

Deja Vibes dropped their first studio EP "Vibin' Around Town" on August 7th, streaming everywhere now. Since forming in 2020 this ATX band on the rise has made a total splash on the Central Texas music scene. Their new EP is more than a retelling of songs from their 2021 EP "Deja Vibes Live in Austin, TX" it is an invitation to travel on down the road with the Deja Vibes family.

Deja Vibes features the original trio of singer and guitarist Dave Escamilla, bass guitarist Jim Guyett and drummer Michael Zapata. This EP also features guitarist Peter Clark. It was recorded over a two day session at Hen House Recording Studio in Austin, TX, engineered by Gary James and mastered by Carl Saff. Video of the session is streaming now on Youtube!

Dave's understated lyrics bring light, humor and a touch of irony, heard best on songs like “I Hate My Day Job”. In his opinion "good lyrics are very visual and not as conceptual." Dave also provides the piano and organ parts on this EP. Major influences include Phish, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Weezer, Sublime and similar jam bands and songwriters.

Jim Guyett’s fancy, silky bass lines are best heard on the New Orleans style track "Louisiana Bound" which sounds like a fusion of Hurray for the Riff Raff and the Grateful Dead. Peter Clark's guitar solos on "Rain in the Desert" and "I Hate My Day Job" are smart and spicy. Jim and Peter also provide harmonies on several songs.

"Bakin in the Sun" best features Michael Zapata's fancy stick work as it alternates between its uptempo funky verse and triple time chorus. It's his favorite track! His list of influential drummers include Larnell Lewis, Nate Smith, Matt Garstka and Joey Baca.

Their live show is packed with popular covers and more original songs that will have you up and dancing for hours. Beginning in October, Deja Vibes will be playing every Saturday at the Parlor Room on Rainey St. in Austin, TX. See their website for more details. Bring your friends!
